India has, undeniably, made significant progress in improving the maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) situation over the past decades. Since the implementation of the National Health Mission (NHM) in India there has been a noticeable improvement in the utilization of maternal care, namely antenatal care (ANC), skilled birth attendants (SBA) and postnatal care (PNC) in the country. As service utilization is directly associated with maternal mortality, India needs to improve maternity care in all three aspects of service utilization (ANC, delivery care and PNC) to meet the target of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for maternal mortality, which is MMR below 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030. The COVID-19 pandemic and strict lockdown in India have affected reproductive services such as maternal health, family planning, and abortion services adversely.
