Critics reviled this "atonal" (Schoenberg preferred "pantonal") music, whose structure does not include traditional tonality. Whether you enjoy his music or not, there is no doubt that Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) evokes emotion. The work of this twentieth-century composer and conductor is widely hailed as the progenitor of a radical renovation in modern classical music. However, Schoenberg developed a unique and unusual music composition technique.
This course will introduce you to the solo piano works of Arnold Schönberg (including the Three Piano Pieces (Opus 11), Six Little Piano Pieces (Opus 19), Five Piano Pieces (Opus 23), Suite for Piano (Opus 25), and Piano Pieces (Opus 33a & b).
